Sixth form students and their teachers from
three Walsall schools recently visited the
super modern Jaguar plant at Castle
Bromwich where the S Types are made.
With funding support from the 14-19
Action Plan two separate visits were
organised by Walsall Education Business
Partnership; one for Joseph Leckie
Community Technology College students
who are studying 'A' level product design,
and a joint visit for students from Alumwell
Business and Enterprise College and Blue
Coat C of E Comprehensive a Performing
Arts Specialist College
On their visit the students:
- saw how "clever" robots spot-welded
or glued and riveted the car chassis and
how the skilled work force assemble
the 150 cars that are made daily;
- learnt how Jaguar conceived, designed,
tested and manufactured its cars.
- were given an idea of the wide range of
careers at Jaguar.
- took part in assembly line simulation
activities making model cars to
emphasize the need for quality and
team work
The three teachers had been on
"pre-visits" to the company and were
extremely impressed by the quality of
the experience laid on by the Jaguar
Education Centre for both themselves
and their pupils.
